FIRST DUE BASEMENT

At 23:15 hrs Bronx phone alarm box 3683 sounded for the 700 blk of East 224 Street reporting a fire in the basement. Engine 63 and Battalion 15 responded. Upon arrival the 10-75 was transmitted by the Officer of Engine 63 for fire in the basement of a 3 story multiple dwelling. Engine 63's crew quickly stretched a 1 3/4 inch line to the basement and made quick work of the fire. Two lines stretched, one operated for fire in the basement of a 3 story multiple dwelling. All searches came back negative and the fire was placed under control by the Chief of the 15 Battalion.

At 17:54 hrs Bronx phone alarm box 3873 sounded for the 4600 blk of Carpenter Ave reporting a fire in the basement of a private dwelling. Engine 63 and Battalion 15 responded. Upon arrival Battalion 15 transmitted the 10-75 for a basement fire in a 2 story private dwelling. Engine 63's crew stretched a line to the basement and quickly extinguished the fire. Two lines stretched, one operated for fire in the basement of a two story private dwelling. All searches came back negative and the fire was placed under control by the Chief of the 15 Battalion.

 
   
 
2ND ALARM PRIVATE DWELLING

At 01:39 hrs Bronx dispatched a 2nd alarm to box 3476, 3000 blk of Young Ave for heavy fire in a private dwelling. This brought Engine 63 1st due on the second alarm. Engine 63's crew assisted with a 3rd line. All searches came back negative and the fire was placed under control by the Chief of the 15 Battalion.

 
 
FIRE IN MULTIPLE DWELLING

At 18:04 hrs Bronx phone alarm box 3633 sounded for the 3600 blk of Holland Ave reporting a fire on the top floor rear. Engine 63 and Battalion 15 responded. Upon the arrival of first due companies the 10-75 was transmitted for fire on the top floor of a multiple dwelling. Engine 63's crew stretched a 2nd line to the front of the fire floor. The fire was extinguished quickly by the first due companies. All searches came back negative and the fire was placed under control by the Chief of the 15 Battalion.

 
 
FIRST DUE PRIVATE HOUSE

At 15:49hrs Bronx phone alarm box 3880 sounded for the 4400 blk of Monticello Ave reporting fire in a private house. Upon arrival the 10-75 was transmitted by Capt Begbie of Engine Company 63 reporting fire on the first floor of a two story private house. Engine 63's crew quickly advanced a 1 3/4 inch line to the seat of the fire and extinguished it. All searches came back negative and the fire was placed under control by the Chief of the 15 Battalion.

 
 
TWO MURDERS OVER NIGHT

Today’s night tour brought two separate homicides to the Wakefield area. At approximately 1am members were alerted to the corner of White Plains Road and East 233rd Street (one block from the fire house) for the first homicide. Upon arrival members found a male with multiple gunshot wounds, he was later pronounced deceased at the hospital. At approximately 5:30am members were alerted to the 1100 blk of East 229 Drive South (Edenwald Projects) for an unresponsive male outside. Upon arrival member determined that the male had been shot once in the chest and appeared to be there over night.

 
 
FIRST DUE PRIVATE DWELLING

At 1742hrs E-63 responded to a phone alarm for a fire out the windows at 4050 De Reimer Ave. E-63 arrived to find a two story private dwelling with fire showing from a 1st floor window. E-63 immediatley transmitted a 10-75 for a working fire. E-63 stretched a line and started to attack the fire under the command of Capt. K. Begbie. Fire was found on multiple floors with a total of 3 lines stretched. The fire was extinguished and placed under control by Batt. Chief B. McSweeney of the 15 Battlion.

Today E-63,L-39,and Batt.15 had the opportunity to train new members in the use of the Hurst Tool. The Hurst Tool is a very important piece of equipment and requires many hours of training to master the art of vehicle exctrication.

 
   
   
 
VACANT 2ND ALARM

At 04:06 hrs Bronx phone alarm box 3471 sounded for the 2900 blk of Matthews Ave reporting a house on fire. Battalion 15 responded and arrived to find a 2 1/2 30X50 house with fire throughout on all floors. Seconds after they arrived they requested a 2nd alarm which brought in Engine 63. Companies made a good push on the fire and were able to knock the main body down. Trucks opened up and searched once the engines made a push. Four lines stretched and operating, for fire throughout a vacant house 30X50. All searches came back negative and the fire was placed unde control by the Chief of the 15 Battalion.

 
   
   
 
TWO BUILDINGS "2ND ALARM"

At 07:33 hrs Bronx phone alarm box 3633 sounded for East 214 Street @ Holland Ave reporting a building on fire. As soon as the apparatus doors opened both companies could see that they definitely were going to go to work. While en-route the Bronx notified incoming companies that they were receiving multiple calls reporting a building fire with people trapped. Upon the arrival of first due companies the all hands was given and companies began to quickly stretch lines. Battalion 15 arrived seconds after the first due companies and transmitted a 2nd alarm for fire throughout two buildings. Engine 63 stretched a line to the rear of exposure 4 were the made entry though a rear door. Just after they made a quick knock of the fire on the first floor all companies were pulled out due to a collapse of the roof of the exposure four building. Four lines stretched and two tower ladders operating for fire through out a 2 1/2 story private dwelling and three story occupied multiple dwelling with extension to another 2 1/2 story private dwelling. All searches came back negative and the fire was placed under control by the Chief of the 15 Battalion.

 
   
   
 
PRIVATE DWELLING FIRE

At 08:55 hrs Bronx phone alarm box 3642 sounded for the 700 blk of East 216th Street reporting a fire in a private house. Engine 63 and Battalion 15 responded and arrived to find a 2 1/2 story private house with fire through out the second floor and attic. Engine 63 helped stretch the first line to the second floor where they were able to make a quick knock of the fire. After the second floor was knocked down we then proceeded to the attic. The trucks opened up and searched while a precautionary line was being stretched by the third due engine company. All searches came back negative and the fire was placed under control by the Chief of the 15 Battalion.

At 09:30 hrs Bronx Communication sounded an alarm for Box 3641 reporting a fire in a private dwelling. First due companies arrived to find heavy fire on the 1st floor venting from the exposure 4 side. Two handlines were stretched and operated. The 1st due truck performed primary searches and checked for fire extion, all of which are negative. Bat. 15 placed the fire under.

 
 
3RD ALARM TAXPAYER

At 13:08 hrs Bronx phone alarm box 4242 sounded for Westchester Ave @ Edison Ave reporting a fire in a store. Battalion 15 responded in on the all hands as the Safety Chief. Apon arrival companies had heavy fire on the 2nd floor of a two story taxpayer. Not long after the all hands was transmitted Division 7 requested a 2nd alarm due to a heavy fire on the 2nd floor and through the roof. Four lines stretched, three tower ladders operating for fire on the 2nd floor of a two story 100X75 taxpayer. Companies got the upper hand on the fire after a hard time with severe weather conditions. At the end the fire want to a 3rd alarm for relefe purpouses. All searches came back negative and the fire was placed under control by the Chief of the 20 Battalion.

 
   
   
 
FDNY MOURNS THE DEATH OF LIEUTENANT JOHN H. MARTINSON

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta regretfully announced the death of Lieutenant John H. Martinson of Engine Company 249 in Brooklyn. Lt. Martinson, 40, sustained critical injuries while battling a two-alarm fire at 1700 Bedford Avenue in Brooklyn on January 3. He was transported to Kings County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Lt. Martinson was appointed to the FDNY on May 9, 1993. He previously served at Engine 204, Engine 80 and Ladder 23. While serving at Engine 80, he received a unit citation in 1996. He was promoted to lieutenant in December 2002 and assigned to Engine 249 in March 2006. A resident of Staten Island, Lt. Martinson is survived by his wife, Jessica, and 1-year-old son, John Patrick. Lt. Martinson is the 1,138th member of the New York City Fire Department to make the Supreme Sacrifice in the Department's 144-year history. Fire at 1700 Bedford Avenue, Brooklyn. Firefighters responded to a call for a fire in a 14th floor apartment at 1700 Bedford Avenue at 7:14 p.m., a 25-story multiple dwelling known as the Ebbets Field Houses. Engine 249 was the first due to the fire. A second alarm was transmitted at 7:35 p.m. and it was deemed under control at 8:33 p.m. Two other firefighters were transported to Kings County Hospital with smoke inhalation and two were transported to Weill Cornell Medical Center with burns. Fire marshals are investigating the cause of the fire. The Officers and members of Engine 63, Ladder 39, and Battalion 15 ask that everyone keeps Lt. Martinsons family and friends in their thoughts and prayers.

 
   
 
1ST DUE GARAGE FIRE

At 19:10 hrs Bronx box 3812 sounded for the 4100 blk of Barnes Ave reporting a garage fire. In route to the box the Bronx advised Bat 15 of a second source reporting a fire. Upon arrival the commanding officer of E-63,Capt. Begbie transmitted a 10-75 for a heavy volume of fire in a 1 story garage, with exposure problems on the 2 and 4 sides. Bat 15 arrived and gave the All Hands signal. E-63 stretch an 1 3/4 hand line, while Ladder 39 forced entry to the exposure 4 building to check for extension. Engine 63 quickly knocked down the large body of fire, while Engine 62 stretched a 2nd line for pre-caution. All searches came back negative with no extension.
