At 15:46 hours FDNY Bronx Box 3859 sounded reporting smoke from a building at the corner of Nereid Ave. and Bronx Blvd. E-63 and L-39 responded 1st due, and as they proceeded closer to the box they had a strong odor of smoke, and saw many people pointing towards the intersection. E-63 and L-39 arrived at the intersection to find heavy smoke pushing from the front of a plumbing supply store on Nereid Ave. and the 10-75 was transmitted. L-39 gained entry and found the fire in a room at the rear of the store. E-63 moved in with a 2 ½ inch line and quickly knocked down the fire preventing any extension to the upper floors. All searches came back negative, and the fire was placed under control.
